We're Hiring a Communications and Program Coordinator

Press Forward is seeking a Communications and Program Coordinator on contract to assist the board of directors with providing high-quality service to its members and coordinating a members summit.

The successful applicant would begin their duties in March 2024, exact date to be mutually determined. This is a part-time (25 hours per week) contract position for 9 months, with possibility of extension pending renewal of funding. Payment is $40 per hour, plus payment in lieu of benefits. This job is remote and can be done anywhere in Canada.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Responding, in a timely fashion, to inquiries from members, partners and the general public.
  • Processing membership applications and renewals; providing onboarding to new member organizations.
  • Providing the board, including committee chairs, with administrative support.
  • Assisting the board with organizing an in-person gathering for Press Forward members and partners.
  • Preparing and distributing member newsletters and social media materials.
  • Assisting the board with Press Forward’s website and digital platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack) to enhance audience and membership engagement.


  • A strong understanding of the Canadian journalism industry and a familiarity with conditions under which Canadian journalists work.
  • Strong writing and communication skills. Fluency in English is required.
  • Comfort and familiarity with programs such as Google Suite, WordPress, Slack, Zoom, MailChimp, and other digital communications tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, administrative acumen and leadership potential.
  • Task-oriented with excellent project management skills and a penchant for getting things done.

Hours and rate of pay:

  • The successful candidate would be expected to work 25 hours per week at $40 per hour, plus payment in lieu of benefits.
